Marvel’s 70s Revised Reprint Covers

Ferran Delgado has posted a couple of fascinating comparisons between original 1960s Marvel covers and the 1970s reprints. Text is in Spanish, so the commentary is a bit hard to follow, but the images speak for themselves. I’m guessing the covers were redrawn to bring the reprints in line with the new comics Marvel was producing at the time.

The original Kirby cover has a painterly quality, nice color and shading, and a real sense of drama. The reprint cover isn’t bad, but which one would you rather take home?

While you’re there, be sure to check out the rest of Ferran’s site, even if you don’t speak Spanish. “I read it for the pictures.”
