Siegel heirs get a piece of Superman
A federal judge ruled this week that Jerry Siegel’s heirs own an interest in the domestic copyright for Superman. The case is ongoing, and what this means financially is still up in the air. Newsarama has ongoing coverage of the story. There’s a possibility that Time Warner would have to licence the use of Superman in any new derivative works after 2013.
This comes on the heels of a prior ruling that awarded the Superboy copyright to Siegel’s heirs.
